Becoming awe-full

Yep, I get it… it’s a play on words. But if the play on words turns your attention to the question then it’s re-focused the lens through which you experience the world for a moment.

Are you Awe-full? Wonder-full? Delight-full? Fear-full? Hope-full? Dread-full? Hurt-full? Peace-full? You get the idea and can continue as long as you want.

If not, is there space in your ‘awe-bucket’ for more awe? Space in your ‘wonder-bucket’ for more wonder?

Or are you inadvertently filling your ‘fear-bucket’ with more fear? For me, there’s definitely more space in my fear-bucket for more fear and it’s a constant practice to avoid making it more full.

Our busy lives draw our attention to the immediate, the apparency of urgent, the novel, the shocking, anything that might appear to threaten our safety and security – just notice the language used in news outlet headlines! – and it’s easy to forget the beauty, wonder and awe right in front of us.

We’ve forgotten to pause, look and observe the awe and wonder in the ordinary, the awe and wonder in the mundane. The awe and wonder in the things that we take for granted. The awe and wonder that when it’s gone, we’d miss forever.

Take a moment now, wherever you are and look around. Go on, do it now, I’ll wait.

We’ve become so accustomed to some miraculous things being ordinary that I suspect we are awe-empty!

Take a minute a day to fill or even drip-feed your cup with the beauty and miraculous all around and aim to become awe-full.

Question of the week

What reminds you of awe or wonder?

What could you keep handy as a reminder of the awesome and wonderful in your life?

It might be a photo, a screensaver, a memory, a song, something that reminds you of a time…

Quote of the week:

"He who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed" Albert Einstein

Extreme but worthy of being reminded on occasions.
