#43
Nov 22, 2021Welcome to Week #43
Did you stop and marvel at the beauty all around you?
Have you taken feedback as highlighting a gap in your craft?
Do you continue to perpetuate you? Why?
What’s your relationship with yourself like?
What’s struck me this week?
1. Tell me about yourself?
What do you say when asked that question? Whether it’s a formal or informal scenario, how do you answer? Do you quote your job title/role? Share some personal history? Begin with “I’m a…”?
When given the space to answer do you reply from memory or imagination?
Has your answer changed over the years? Due to what? Reflection? Growth? Circumstances? Geography?
What’s the story you repeat to yourself about yourself? Given our brain filters for evidence to keep us safe and successful, I wonder if you’re even aware of the story? Or is it a moment to repeat the cliché that’s gone un-noticed for a time?
See if you can answer without using your name; your job title/role; where you’re from; how you got here; your relationship/family/cultural status.
Change it up. I dare you 😊 See what happens when – even for fun – you change the story of you.
2. Expressing Gratitude
The benefits of expressing gratitude are well documented. Not only does it provide a great platform to strive from – if you choose striving – but it brings more coherence to our nervous system.
So, some sentence stems for you to ponder, wonder, imagine and complete at your leisure.
Yesterday I appreciated…
Today I’m thankful for…
Right now I’m grateful for…
Tomorrow I’m looking forward to…

3. Question of the week – Part #3 What’s the future part of you that’s waiting patiently to be set free?
We all change and adapt over the months and years and I wonder if there are parts of me that are hidden for some reason. I ponder what I might and could, must never and can’t imagine being.
4. Quote of the week - "Are you stuck or are you choosing to remain?" Arch Hades
Such a simple, albeit binary, position. Maybe we’re stuck because we can’t move or we haven’t learnt what we were meant to yet. Maybe we’re choosing to remain because we enjoy it and want to stretch it out. Or maybe it’s a question that puts us at cause not effect?
5. Freedom Fridays Podcast
My weekly conversation with ordinary people doing extraordinary things. We explore some of the big changes people have gone through and what’s helped the journey. The intention is to share as openly as possible some of the ingredients – the good, the bad, the ugly – that shape our shift from ‘I have to’ into ‘I choose to’. The lessons are hiding in open sight within the conversation – it’s up to you how you apply them.
This week completes the trifecta - the continuation of the conversation I had with Karen Gately, Founder & Sensei of Corporate Dojo. In Part #3 to close the conversation we deconstruct the “I’m time -poor’’ badge of honour and explore whether to give tasks to those that are most capable or least capable. We round out our conversation with a discussion about the importance in a people leadership role of having an awareness of how humans operate.
